Founded in 1951 in Helsinki, Finland, Marimekko contributed heavily to the world of fashion by creating brightly colored fabrics and heavily stylized patterns used on everything from clothing to furniture.

They captured the expressionism and psychedelic aura of the 60s in their work and with it found commercial success. Their two most prominent designers were Vuokko Nurmesniemi, who was known for bold stripes, and Maija Isola who created large simple flowered prints. Their creative output helped Marimekko become a household name across the world and shaped the influential brand's legacy which is stronger today than ever.
